Starting a Website/Discussion Board (?)

24" iMac
I'm thinking of starting a website/discussion board, using the freebie, phpBB. Any one here have any experience in setting-up such a board, is it difficult for a non-geek, is phpBB compatible with Mac? Thanks for your input.
