Hi,

I have an old 13 inch MBP. I am thinking of upgrading the hard drive from 500GB to 1TB.

The one 1TB laptop hard drive I have in sight is a Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD10TPVT 1TB 5200 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive. It's 12.5 mm thick.

Question: Will it fit in a mid 2009 13' MBP?

Thanks everyone!

No. Must be 9.5mm to fit a Mac Notebook.

People have reported that the 12.5mm hard drive will fit...but it is an uncomfortably tight fit. Most folks opt. to remove the drive, return it, and order a 9.5mm replacement.

Interesting... so you're saying give it a try and if it fits, keep it... if it doesn't, return it?

I'm not really sure how you drew those conclusions from my post. I never said anything about..."give it a try and if it fits, keep it... if it doesn't, return it".

What I said was..."folks (members here on Mac-Forums) have reported that the 12.5mm hard drive will fit...but it is an uncomfortably tight fit. Most folks opt. to remove the drive, return it, and order a 9.5mm replacement."

If someone is just asking a question (before purchasing a replacement hard drive)...my advice would be stay away from 12.5mm high hard drives...and stick with the 9.5mm variety.

Actually, only the larger Macbooks can barely accommodate a 12mm drive. The regular Macbooks have a tight enough fit with the 9.5mm drive, forget about trying to jam a 12mm drive into the slot.

Thanks everyone for the quick reply...will stay away from the 12.5mm hard drive...right now it seems there aren't any 9.5mm 1TB laptop hard drives (atleast I couldn't find any on newegg/amazon)

If you know about a site which sells one, please share the knowledge.

Thanks everyone! Have a good day! :)

1TB was just released in the 2.5" form factor. It's gonna be a couple of months before we see a 9.5" version.

Go HERE and hit the MYOWC tab put in your specs and follow the prompts and it will bring up all compatible HD's for your Mac. Respected company and they test all hardware to make sure its all ok to sell on

EDIT : Better still HERE is the link to all compatible with your machine

There is 1 TB but they are 12.5mm
The biggest you will get is Western Digital 750GB 9.5mm

Cheers
