Is the 256mg of VRAM in the 15 inch MacBookPro (330 card) enough to play games well?

It seems like a low amount. For example, the Sony Z has the same discrete card and 1gig of video memory.

Will the card improve the quality of videos that are played on the machine (compared, to say, playback on the 13 inch macbookpro with no discrete graphics but a 320 card)?

The graphics card really doesn't have too much effect on how videos played on a computer, unless you are playing HD videos striaght off your hard drive, or if you have a blu-ray drive hooked up. What kind of games will you be playing on your computer, and which operating system will you be using to play them with? Like back when I had a 256mb GPU, for the 8600M GT, it was able to play a good amount of games that came out at that time. I think the best thing to try is to test the card with the available demos, and see if it can handle them.
