Does the 400 mhz iMacs support a memory stick?

I was wondering do the 400 mhz G3 iMac's (slot loading first generation) supports memory sticks/flash memory/USB flash drive etc.? (and exactly where do I plug in the memory stick?)

(if it does, does it also require an operating system higher than 8.6?)

Do the PowerMac G4 Cube's support memory sticks? And if so, again where do I plug in the memory stick?

Sorry for the dumb questions, it is just that they only seem to make it obvious on more recent Macs (e.g. on my MacBook it is relatively obvious (at least to me!) where I plug in the memory stick).

You need a card reader to read a memory stick on any computer that does not have a built in card slot. Have no clue if they will work with the USB 1.1 slots or not.

No G3 model will work with today's USB flash drives. Flash drives are all USB 2.0 as far as I am aware. The G3s are all USB 1.1. All Power Mac G4s are USB 1.1.

Just a slight correction there , G3 iMacs will certainly operate flash drives (I use them all the time between my G4 eMac (USB2) and my G3 iMac (USB1.1). For your Bondi Blue, there are 2 x 12 Mbps USB ports. Likewise the G4 Cube.

A USB camera card reader will also work, I use one with both my Macs.

The key though is the operating OS. Your iMac was issued with OS 8.1, and you ask about 8.6. I cannot remember ever using USB with that OS (not that I had a USB Mac at the time). If at all possible, upgrade both the RAM to either 384 Mb (rev A) or 512 Mb (Rev B); and the OS to 10.3.9.

Where are the USB ports?
AFAIK, down one side of the iMac (not 100% sure about that particular model): and by the carry handle of the Cube (see http://www.t2-project.org/hardware/workstation/Apple/Cube/cube_open.jpg).

So the Flash drives are backwards compatible - was thinking they might not be - thanks for the heads up.

OS 8.5 is when USB card support was added. You could add PCI USB cards to powermacs and G3's. At the time the USB one support was a upgrade and was rolled over into later OS's.

On the slot load iMac the usb ports are behind the door on the right side.
