Apple is gaining in the computer market because of the iPod,iPad and iPhone making people want to try it and see if the computing experience is easier and just as productive
without most of the maintenance hassles.

Apple (if IRC) once said that people who purchase an iPod (or three) will eventually switch from the Windows platform to the Mac.

Ah - the "halo effect". The first Apple product I ever bought was an iPod Nano for my wife. If it wasn't for that, I may have been a bit less likely to purchase a Touch for myself a few months later. One year after I got the Touch, I got my first Mac and now I have an iPhone too.

such as controlling 90% of the market, Perhaps Steve things this is fine, but honestly, nobody is content with just having a tiny slice, they want the whole thing.
and when you design an OS to work with basically any piece of computer hardware, and you let software developers have free reign over apps, combine that with 90%+ of the computer market you'd be lying if you said you had no issues.

The fact is Apple realized they weren't going to unseat MS in the computer market ever. They did the next best thing though, they created (or exploited) the new digital device market that MS was ignoring and now dominated it. Because of that they are now able to compete with MS in the PC market without actually having to compete. They offer a nice alternative that many people are opening up to. Apples "Walled Garden" product model turn off many, but a lot of folks don't seem all that upset by it and if overall company sales and growth are indicative of things to come, they don't have a lot to worry about.
