Macbook Hard Drive Problem

My Macbook 13" White 2.1 Ghz laptop has a problem.
Randomly whilst on it reads the hardrive and makes the same noise it makes when i open my Macbook.
When it reads my whole laptop lags then it runs fine.
I haven't dropped it on the harddrive area.
I dont know what has done it.

Open up Activity Monitor to see what application is running during that time.
