We purchased a MAC book pro 16 months ago (17/03/09) and the LCD srceen has failed. It throws up lines across the screen. Apple are refusing to fix it as there is a small dent on the computer frame. This dent happened 11 months ago and the computer has been working perfectly until last week. The point here is that the LCD failed as it goes to black and white lines intermittently only after 13 months and apple are refusing to help with its repair. They have quoted $1100 to fix it. I feel they are using an insignificant little dent in the frame as an excuse to not fix this faulty product. We purchased an apple because we wanted a quality product and find our selves very disappointed by the product we purchased and with the Apple customer care. Any ideas on how I should get the screen fixed and how to get Apple to take some responsibility for this faulty product.

dent

It slipped out of its protective case onto a desk top in its first week of use. It then worked perfectly for a year. If we reopen the screen and give it a slight twist the screen works. So it is an intermittent switching problem. Apple wanted to replace the LCD (for $1200AUD), this I feel would be a waste of time and money. This is how Apple treat good customers, this is our 3rd MAC book pro which we use in our business.

Sorry...you did mention that it happened quite a while ago...and has worked fine since. You would think that a mishap that happened 11 months ago would not still have repercussions today (LCD issue).

The only thing I can think of that would or could happen 11 months later from this mishap is...if the ribbon cable that goes from the lower section of the laptop to the display got dislodged during the drop...and the opening & closing of the lid/display somehow wore threw the ribbon cable causing some sort of short circuit.

Is this laptop still under warranty?

Do you think that the refusal from the Apple person to fix it was a "judgement call" on their part...or did they quote a specific warranty/Applecare "rule" that prevented the repair?

warranty screen failure

It is just out of warranty however it seems that this is a known problem. Another post points at the same problem. If you put a bit a pressure in the lid frame as you open it it seems to work for a while.
