Well I got my iPhone 4 last week, and it's of course the black version. Kind of bummed out the white version wasn't available.

I thought the white iPhone was just cooler looking, and more sophisticated. But which color do you prefer?

I was all stoked for the white iPhone 4, then there was the unavailability at launch issues (and I wanted my iPhone on launch day as I had been waiting since January for a new iPhone); and upon further investigation I noticed that the white iPhone 4's proximity sensor is more visible (the little grill thing above the earpiece). This IMO makes it look a little cluttered, check out what I mean:

So I ended up with black, I'm interested in checking the white out in person though when they become more available just to see if its as noticeable 'in the flesh' so to speak.

As a temporary measure, you could always try the GelaSkins approach to creating a white iPhone 4.

If the proximity sensor is that visible in the stock photo, I bet it's even more visible in person.

I think I still want the white version, and since I'm waiting on Otterbox to release their cases it looks like the whites will be released when I plan to upgrade.

That is true, I did notice that and wandered what that was! That vintage Apple logo on that modded iPhone 4 looked real sweet with the Gelaskin!

I had all intention of getting a white one until the day before pre-order day when we were informed of the black only availability. I'll get a white one (if available) when the next version comes out.

You know black is slimming, don't ya? ;P

Or use the black iPhone with a white bumper, which is my plan.

Thank God, maybe they'll just eventually cancel that monstrosity. :)

Anyone else find it weird that Jobs mentioned the white one would be out soon, And then they push it back a week later?

You can always buy the conversion kit, I think it retails for $300.

Not really. Manufacturing issues can happen at any time.
