I creating a home video years ago from a trip to Italy that I took. When I reviewed the video after returning home, I found that the sound was terrible due to a problem with the recorder. I burned it to DVD since, but now I want to create some photo's from scenes in the video.

What is the best way to do this on an iMac 24"?

I use VLC for this ("Snapshot" command) but there are many such programs that can do this.

There's an inherent problem, however: still images take from standard-definition video tend to look awful, because they are quite low-resolution (720x480 at best). Don't expect to use such photos for prints, photo books, or anything like that; they'll look okay on a computer or on a webpage, but that's about it.
