Slow Searches

A month or so ago, my iMAC searches on Google suddenly became extremely slow. Both the opening of Google and accessing the results of a Google search are very slow. This has not been the case before. My iMAC 1.5G has always operated very fast. Any suggestions for what could be causing this?
