Well, as much as I hate a lawsuit happy environment - Apple does have a patent on the magsafe, assuming they sent a cease and desist letter to the retailers carrying the clones and they failed to comply - Apple has the right to force them to stop carrying the clones.

I'm sure the clones are probably being made in China which means Apple would not have much chance suing the manufacturer; next best option is to at least get them off the market.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were being made by the same exact factory or someone who works at the factory in China who produces the "real" MagSafe adaptor for Apple. ;D

Regards.

Apple is protecting its intellectual property. I fail to see the problem or why this is even newsworthy.

Apple absolutely SHOULD sue them, the MagSafe is their patent & these ridiculous Chinese clone-makers need to just give it up already.

Apple doesn't actually have a choice in the matter: under the law, if they find out about knockoff manufacturers, they HAVE to sue them (assuming a cease-and-desist didn't work) or risk losing their patent.

Not that Apple doesn't WANT to stop knock-off companies, but even if for some reason they didn't care, they are legally obligated on behalf of their stakeholders to guard their patents.
