• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

iDVD Won't Burn

I've spent hours making an iDVD project and now - when I click the BURN icon in iDVD 4 - the blank DVD-R disk I insert keeps getting ejected and asks me to insert a blank DVD-R disk!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.

What brand of DVD are you using?

The following, Apple, Imation, Fujii, Verbatim and TDK have worked well for me. I don't use any of the cheap ones.

It may be that +/- compatibility issue happening. Try a +R disc and see if the same thing happens.

The disks are DVD+R and are TDK.
I have been able to now get them to burn via Finder but they will not play.
I get an arror message saying 'Project cannot be opened as it may be write-protected'.

Could it be all down to the DVD brand?

Thank you for your support.

Success

SUCCESS - I read somewhere online that iDVD 4 will only burn DVD-R disks. Tried that and it worked!

I was going to suggest that next, but I was away for a day. Glad you found a resolution to your problem.

What I have found is not all DVD player can read DVD+Rs. So I tend to use only DVD-Rs.
