Hey guys,
My macbook is struggling.. applications are slow to open and more importantly, online pages take forever to load.. safari is always dying on me etc..... I think it's my ram

Can I upgrade the ram?

specs:
Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz

also my harddrive is almost full..

capacity:159.7 GB
Available:21.15 GB
Used: 138.54 GB on disk

if i replace my HD, can i re add all of my computer stuff with timemachine? or do i need to do it file by file.. app by app.. and setting by setting?

THANKS!!!!

The slow response is probably due to the fact that your hard drive is almost full. You would certainly benefit from installing a larger faster hard drive. Your model of MacBook is very easy to upgrade both the hard drive and memory. Just make sure you have a good Time Machine backup or use a cloning program such as SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to restore your data and applications. You don't have to restore file by file with either of the three programs I mentioned.

You can upgrade your memory at the same time you replace the hard drive, however, I recommend you do them one at a time. Do the memory first to make sure the machine is working OK. After making sure the memory is recognized by the machine you can upgrade the hard drive.

Regards.

Like "chscag" mentioned...the slowness is probably due to your almost full hard drive...and possibly due to having:

- too many applications open at the same time
- and a slow internet connection if your having internet slowness issues

A 2.4ghz MacBook with 2 gig of ram...should be a very capable & speedy setup. This is a slightly better setup than what I'm using...and I have no complaints.

Go to OWC and browse around. They're Mac specialists and have excellent service along with the best in parts and upgrades.
