That's good to know, For a while there people were actually selling invites. I use it everyday it's the great.

I just wish I could actually port my home number to them and I'd switch to it. As it is right now, I can't really use it to replace my home phone without losing my number.

I don't have a home phone anymore, I was under the impression any line would work?

Well it will, I could have my GV number ring my home phone, but that's not what I'm wanting.

I want to stop paying for my home phone (I mean it's dirt cheap VoIP, but still). I want to port my existing home phone number to be my GV number and then that could ring my cell/work.

They did Google Voice the same way they did Google Mail when it first came on line years ago. For a length of time the only way you could get a GMail account was through an invite. They eventually opened it up for everyone.

Google Voice is real handy if you don't have a wired home phone. It's easy to give out your Google number and have it forwarded to a cell number. That way you can keep your cell number private. No ads or spam text.

I rarely give out my cell number anymore, I also GV because you can text message right from your computer,iPad,iPhone..etc
