Does anyones else browser do this? Should I be worried?

Last night I noticed my safari had a funky font going on. Its actually starting to bother me. How do I get it back to plain text? and how did it get like this to begin. as im writing this thread im noticing I cant see the @ symbol within the browser it shows as if pressed the spacebar and thats it... this is getting really scary. someone help me...

Firstly, no, you need not be worried. It has happened on a few occasions with some of the product sites I've visited. It looks like flickr.com is using a font not included in the MacOS set.

You might also check Safari Prefs >Appearance to see how fonts/text are to be displayed.

but how would you explain the non appearing @ symbol on webpages? im hoping i didnt get hacked or something?

I'm not sure I understand, since the @ sign applies to email, not browsers. A web page/site may well include an email link which would use the @ sign. Obviously the @ sign is appearing okay in these communications.

It's highly unlikely you've been "hacked" since the MacOS firewall is very secure.

Post a screenshot (Cmd-Shift-4)of your Safari Prefs > Appearance so we can see what text encoding is being used.

Meantime, try another browser such as Camino or Firefox (both Mozilla), or Opera, to see if the display issue shows up.

Okay:
1. try changing the font type and size in the Standard Font field. Experiment until you find something that suits you, as it's a matter or personal preference (or in my case - eyesight!).
2. do the same with the fixed-width font, although Courier seems to be the standard. Change that size from 11 to 12 I suggest. For some reason even numbers show better in the Mac font world.
3. change the Default Encoding to Western (ISO Latin 1).

If those changes don't make a difference, simply revert to what you had. You have a record of the settings in your screenshot.

Have you tried a different browser yet?
