transfering applications with other macs

I've tried this, and it seems to work, but I want to make sure it's actual okay.

If I drag a application from one computer to the other on a network, I can use that application on the other now..right?

Meaning..I download a application and like it, and instead of downloading it again on the other computer, I just drag and drop with my network. I know that sometimes the programs create folders, but those can be transfered to if need be.

I just want to know if this is okay to do, or is it not a good idea?

If it's an app that just has to be dragged to your apps folder to install it - no problem.
Some apps however require an installation process that places other files elsewhere in your system - those will probably not run properly if you just copy over the app itself. For those I'd recommend keeping the installer you downloaded and then just running that on your other systems.

yea, theres the .plist most apps install that let osx know where other vital files are. You forget , MOST programs install stuff into LIbrary, application support, etc.

Now ifyou did a search for your apps, and found ALL the components, then dragging it i see no problem. But i beleive some files contain configurations for the different peices of hardware you have.

Nice thing about os.x, NO REGISTRY

Even though it is true that MOST apps put stuff in the library, drag 'n drop applications will usually just generate those files the first time they start up.

Try it: Delete the .plist file for an app and then launch it - it'll usually just create a new one.

You can run the application directly over the network much of the time as well.

If you have a fast enough network it will load almost as quickly as if it were native as well.
