HELP with 17" IMAC G5 2.0Ghz ALS bootup issue
All MAC gurus please lend some advice. I recently acquired an IMAC G5 and upon attempting to boot it up here's what happens as viewed from inside the casing:
1. Plug in power cord and LED 1 = green and solid.
2. Press Power button and LED 2 & 3 = green and solid.
3. LCD Backlight switches on and I can hear the start up chime.
4. Within 2~3 seconds LED 4 = red and solid.
5. The computer shutdown immediately.
6. Unplug and replug ritual (Apple's instruction for resetting the SMU) but still the same results as shown in steps 1 - 5.
I've read that the capacitors are known to fail but upon visual inspection none are bulging or burnt. If they were bad would LED 2 light up at all, shouldn't it just stay off? I've also learned via the web that this indicated an overtemp situation. What I don't know is what exactly is getting too hot in less then 8 seconds of operation. Please help, since I am new to MACs I have no clue what to do here. Thanks in advance.
