iOS 4 Update - Problem Accessing Iphone Backup after Install

I watched my iPhone sync and backup all my information before the install of iOS 4 today. However, after the install it appears none of it actually was backed-up at all. I tried Syncing after the update and none of my contacts/photos/music transfers to my phone. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anyone else experience this problem? Would hate to have lost all of my information!
