I am trying to update a friend's white Macbook and keep getting errors like "install step failed: run preinstall script for MacBookFirmwareUpdate, Quicktime766_Leopard, iTunes, and MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8." I have no clue as to what is going on. Any help would be much appreciated.

First we need to know what it is that you're trying to update? Are trying to update the OS or some particular application?

And include the model year of his MacBook and which OS he's currently using.

If it's an OS X upgrade that you're trying to do, it might be best to download and use the combo update. Here's the LINK to the Leopard 10.5.8 combo update.

Regards.
