Do you think it is worth waiting for the 2nd or 3rd generation of iPads?

What are you concerns with the 1st generation and do you usually wait for 2nd, 3rd generation? If so..wait..entirely up to you..

I thought that because it was the first there might be somethings worth waiting for in the second. Like a camera, or a fingerprint reader.

OK...and since Apple never releases ANY information about future products and potential features..you'd be waiting for a while I'd think...

Not sure about a camera feature for the iPad..not really what it's meant to do..fingerprint reader might be interesting, and then again on this type of device might be overkill..

But when the newer and better one comes out, ill have one and you will either have to buy another one, or NOT HAVE THE BETTER ONE!

That's technology for you. If you're always waiting for the next thing on the horizon, you'll wait forever.

The answer? Buy the machine that fits your needs when you need it. It will continue to serve those needs long after the next big thing hits the market.

If you don't need it, by all means, wait and see what the latest and greatest is when you do.

But as of June 28, 2010, I have one and you don't!

Actually cwa107 said it before I got a chance to... at some point in time if you really want one, you're just gonna hafta pull the trigger. There will always be a new, bigger, badder unit on the horizon. That's technology AND marketing for you!

Well said, On top of that if history speaks for itself with Apple don't expect major changes with the next iPad. It's a rather simple device.

Here's what I suggest buy one now and when something better comes along, Sell your old one and buy the new one. Besides it never hurts to have a extra Apple product around the house.

Now or Later ?

.

When iPad was released I mused about waiting for
the 2nd generation for a few minutes. Then I decided
I would buy the 1st, skip the 2nd, and take a look at
the 3rd.

The opening iPad has a great deal of functionality and
benefits from the refinements of the previous iPhone
and Mac lineage. It's a solid product and they've been
working on it for a while. It's what it is, and it's
very good. I love it !

I put this more in the iMac type class of product. I'm
still running my Intel Duo iMac 20" that I bought in 2006
and feel NO need or desire to upgrade to a newer model.

If you plan to wait for the second why not wait for the third or forth or fifth? Maybe you can wait for the tenth I hear that one will be full 3D. ;)

The point being don't make your decisions on the what if factor.

I think you should wait so that those who really want one now can get one. We definitely need people in this world who are willing to wait so we can get the good stuff when it comes out.

Out of curiosity, what would you do with a fingerprint reader on an iPad? I want it to be equipped with a jet pack.....do you think Apple is going to add that feature?

Seriously tho, I KNOW YOU WANT AN IPAD NOW, so just buy it, and when they release a new one, sell the first gen and hop you are all set. Just buy it, enjoy it like we all do, and see what happens. You could be waiting for a long time...

But, i don't want to go through the whole "sell it and buy a new one" thing. It's too much work. Anyone willing to buy it at a fair price will want the 2nd gen.

Put it on craigslist and you'll sell the first gen within a day. There are many people that are willing to wait for good deals when a new product comes out. When I was a kid, I would sometimes wait 6 months after the release of a new game To buy it because I couldn't afford it brand new.

Nobody knows when they are going to release a second gen of iPad. Why wait? Maybe the first gen would be enough for you but you won't know till you make that step.

I love my iPad. I never had regrets with my purchase. Do it! Lol

If history has taught us anything about Apple. It's not to expect any major changes in the first revision.

Well if you think that is too much work, then maybe you shouldn't buy an iPad at all! You know you will have to take it out of the box, plug it in and register it in iTunes. That's work. The you will have to download a bunch of music, videos and apps. That's work. The you will have to periodically charge the battery. That's work. The you will have to clean your fingerprints off the screen. That's work.

What is it with kids these days? A little work NEVER killed anyone! Not everything is going to be handed to you just because you think you deserve it. Like I said and several others have said, there will always be a bigger, badder, meaner iSomething coming out and you will only have the most current model for a short period of time.

And also like I said, while you are waiting for the latest and greatest for who knows how long, I will be enjoying my iPad!

How much could i sell the 1st gen for when the 2nd gen comes out? Like 400 dollars or would it be lower?

Ummmm.... well.... why don't you go to the Craig's List for your area and see what they are going for. I checked my area and there are over 50! Some people are asking pretty close to what they paid for it, but there are a few bargains to be had. I wish I had seen this before I bougt mine:

IPAD 64GB WIFI 3G !!!

Be reasonable with your price and don't be greedy and it will probably sell in a couple of days. Remember, your iPad will be just like everyone else's so give them a reason to buy yours!

In my opinion, (hold the boo'ing), I do believe it's wise to wait for the iPad 2nd Gen. I strongly suggest waiting for a few reasons. For one, Apple hired a camera specialist for the iPad back in April- this leads me to believe a camera will indeed be included on the 2nd Gen. As a matter of fact, the lack of a camera turned me away from iPad. Current owners like to use the "it's not what the iPad needs" excuse, but trust me, iPad NEEDS a camera. It's a $500-$829 device, it should have something as basic as a camera for FaceTime. Once Apple gets their heads together & releases a 2nd Gen. iPad with camera, I will gladly invest in one. But just to be fair, I do think the iPad is amazing at it is, but it needs that camera!
