I have a 250GB external drive I use for Time Machine backups of my MacBook.

When the drive fills up, will it delete the oldest backup while writing in the new one, or will I need to buy a second external drive?

TIA.

Time Machine will automatically delete the oldest backups to make room for new backups. Don't forget to turn on " warn before deleting old backup " so you know that it is actually happening :)

Having said that, you eventually will need a new hard drive as the ' deletion of oldest backups ' is outside of your control and TM might delete old backups that you would rather keep...... depending on your backup strategy.

Cheers ... McBie

Thanks, McBie. Since I never delete any information that is important to me, I suppose I'll never worry about it. Have a great week!
