Wow! I don't think you have ever heard this one before!
I have a...

Intel Xeon 2.66ghzx4
5gig Ram Heatsincked and all!
350gig Harddrive

It was bought a few years ago Apple Refurbished and never had any problems until a few months ago.

I am a professional Recording Engineer in Philadelphia.

I started getting messages stating "The operating system held off interrupts for too long. If this occurs frequently, try increasing the "h/w buffer size" in the playback engine panel" In ProTools LE 7

I also started noticing slower response times

In Response, I went to my local Apple Reseller called Micro Center and bought 4gig ram (2x 2gig) to bring my total to five gigs

I have not noticed any improvements

Afterwords, I called up the retailer and they said that the different brands of ram could be conflicting and creating latency

I took out the pre-installed (2x512mb) in response and have not shown any improvement. I took this out yesterday.

In fact, when I booted up my computer today to my disturbance the screen looked sort of smaller!

Please tell me its not the logic board! :'(

What can I do to improve the performance?

How can I fix these issues?

More Info:
Pre Installed Ram: 2x Nanya 512mb
Added Ram: memoryPOWER DDR2 2GB(x2) Universal Compatibility

Ideas:

- How full is your hard drive? A full or almost full hard drive can cause issues.
- When was the last time you ran "Disk Utility" on your hard drive to see if everything was ok?
- When was the last time you repaired permissions (a function within Disk Utility)?
- Have you tried resetting the PRAM? A 4-keystroke command that you press after you restart the computer (Command + Option + P + R).
- Have you tried booting with an OS install disk (rather than your hard drive) to see if that helps?
- Do you have a program installed like "Temperature Monitor"...to see if you have any over-heating issues?

Give this stuff a try...and let us know how it turns out.

Wow! My daughter's Mac has the exact same problem after about 2 1/2 years of use - exact. We took it to Bestbuy and upgraded the RAM to 4 gigs. Same thing - no improvement. My wife has the exact same model and has had no problems. We switched units since my daughter needs her Mac more than my wife does.

When my daughter put the 4 gigs into my wife's Mac it ran super great. Meanwhile my daughter's old Mac has basically become a conversation piece. I will try the other fellow's suggestions and let you know what develops.

Ok, I have...
-Cleaned out lots of stuff within the past month. It brought my Harddrive up to 135gb free.
-I just ran Disk Utility, and my harddrive is running fine, never done that before.
-I have just repaired about 6 permissions, never done that before.
-If I did it properly, I reset the PRAM
-Unfortunately, I do not have an OS Install Disk handy
-If I did this one correctly, I compared the two temperature in temp monitor and all seemed on par

I will be running Idefrag tonight and I will tell you how that goes
I will also be doing some high-performance work in the next hour and I will tell you if I get some of the same errors

Wish me luck! :Blushing:

It would help if you posted the temps you got (just to be sure they're not out of line).

Good luck with the rest of it.

I was also prompted upon startup of app to install x86 I think it was called
It said I needed to install additional sensors
