That's a good deal for early adopters. I can see people trading in their favorite titles at the very least.

I still have 18 of them including the 5 disc set of Blade Runner - that one is $14.95 - all told it's going to cost me $100 for 18 Blu-Rays - not too bad. Wish the other houses would do the same.

I wish this also and if thats not possible at least some sort of discount on re-purchasing it again.

Why would you want to get the same titles again on BR? I assume you have an HD-DVD player already if you have HD-DVDs.

I've compared the same titles, HD-DVD to BR and the HD-DVD is consistently better.

I'll keep my HDs!

I think it's a good deal. I was almost a victim myself. I literally planned on getting an HD DVD player within days when Toshiba announced they were killing HD DVD. To this day I'll always argue that HD DVD was better, but I'm happy with my blu ray player.

Wonder how they'll handle it once CBHD replaces Blu-Ray.

I used to say that in the beginning not so much now and got an Oppo BDP-83
it has given me the best picture so far using Blade Runner as the comparison
it also upconverts better than my Integra 10.5 which cost 5 times more.

I doubt that will happen, honestly. CBHD doesn't have much, if any improvement over blu-ray. And while blu-ray isn't quite in ever household, yet, the prices are coming down very quickly, and it's being adopted very quickly. There's just too much of a foot-hold for a third competitor to jump into our market.

Maybe when they move to something with an even higher definition that 1080p, but I honestly doubt that anybody is going to want to adopt another video format for a long time. Past 1080p, you're grasping at straws to find any noticeable improvement.

The fact of the matter is that CBHD is by far the most popular optical format for HD, just by virtue of the fact that it's dominant in China. With all of the inherent complexities of copyright protection surrounding Blu-Ray and Sony's tight grip on the licensing, I think it's only a matter of time before it starts trickling out to the rest of the world as an alternative. All it takes is for something like the porn industry to adopt it, and it will flourish in the US. I guess we'll see....

BetaMax had better picture/sound than VHS same for laserdisc/DVD. If you want to know where the media is headed just look at the adult entertainment industry. If they choose it, the rest will follow.

I still believe the motion picture industry decides which format will win or lose just because a new format thats cheaper does not mean the rest of the world will adopt it
unless Hollywood wants it ,after all if they will not release a movie on it can't see it lasting
at least state side. They have had Blu-Ray recorders in Japan for a couple of years but
they will not sell them here think the MPAA might have a hand in it and CBHD is to easy
to copy and cheaper to copy bet we will never see it grace our shores legally.

Actually, I have the last two top of the line HD-DVD players along with the LG B-R/HD-DVD combo drive sitting in my HTPC. I'd say $5 is not bad insurance against the time they all die, and they will.

I am with those that fully believe HD-DVD was the superior technology. I am not one of those that has a problem with moving on now that it's dead.

If that is the case (and I believe that it is - just look at history), then it is easy to see that there will be NO new physical media format to jump on. The adult industry has clearly shifted to streaming as its new form of delivery.

Sure, there are people still out there watching porn on VHS, DVD, and blu-ray. But the majority of people now get their fix online. I won't be long until we all will be streaming and downloading the media that we were seeking on a physical disc. With the capacities of hard drives these days, and the falling prices, I know that I have basically stopped burning discs. Cheap enough to leave it on a drive!
