Having trouble configuring my G4 ( 20", 1.25GHz, 10.3.2), to access the internet using a "3" dongle. I have managed to load the installer (3 times!), but when I ask for an assist I am getting nowhere. Is this OS version too primitive to handle dongles? Is there anything I can do? I am very keen to start using my new machine.
Cheers.

What is this dongle you speak of? Some kind of external network card?

Hi Davan. The dongle is a wireless mobile broadband device that is inserted into a usb port. It works on the 3G phone network. I have discovered from the suppliers website that I need OSX 10.4 or better, so I will need to source Tiger.

If you decide to purchase Tiger, make sure to buy the black retail disc and not a grey one. Grey discs are machine specific.

Hi again. There are some grey disks on sale in ebay (item no. 230485638083) where the seller states that you can use them if you have Panther! Is this a scam then? Not doubting your word, just trying to learn.
Thanks again.

Like Van stated... The grey disks are model specific, you need the black retail set. Don't be taken in by some seller on eBay.

Regards.

Thanks for all your help guys. I think I will fit an airport extreme card and once I can access the web from the Mac, I can get some help from apple. I would also like to upgrade the memory (discussed on previous thread) and possibly the hard drive.
Thanks again

That is the go divergordon. Have tried all sorts of dongles, Netgear included, and have NEVER found a driver or a dongle that works with a Mac despite manufacturer's claims!
