This new tidbit is making the rounds ( Apple quietly adds anti-malware in Snow Leopard update ) Is the party over? No more downloading stuff willy-nilly from all over the net.

There never was any such party. You have never been able to download stuff willy-nilly off of the 'net without danger.

Download only from known, reputable entities.
Don't run as admin.
Don't enter your admin password unless you know what it's for
