I have a powerbook 17'' g4. I recently replaced my UJSUPER 846CA /MODELUJ-846-C (PANASONIC=SHIKOKU ELECTRONICS) with a used 845CA MODELUJ845Ce, it accepts dvds, cds etc, but it eject them after 1-2 without mounting on the desktop. Also no device found in system profiler. Do I need perhaps some of driver???Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like that replacement drive you used is not compatible with your PB G4 or it could be defective. Drivers are not going to help even if you could find one. You really need an exact replacement drive or one that is a known substitute for the original. OWC sells replacement optical drives for most Mac models. Take a look and see what they have.

Regards.
