My MacBook was loading the desktop (and coincidentally, iCal, Mail and prompting me for an internet connection) and then I noticed the menu bar was missing. After engaging Spaces, it reappeared. But it is interesting to note, considering that this happened after the 10.6.4 update.

It could be something as innocent as your MB was just loading so many things at once that it took a little longer for the menu bar to show up.
Have you gone into Disk Utility and verified permissions to see if anything was awry? I'd do that just to be certain there aren't any issues.

That's not new to 10.6.4 - I've had that happen pre-10.6.4. I'm not sure what the issue is but it goes away shortly after I open something.

It's happened to me too. Usually I can click the Finder and it reappears. Not sure what's causing it but like Van said it's occurred before the 10.6.4 update.

Regards.

My menubar was missing too after I first restarted but it slowly appeared a few minutes later. I figured it just needed a few minutes to initialize the update.

After the update I did a verification of disk permissions. And this is the first time I've ever seen the menubar disappear, considering I set up my Mac computers to load Mail and iCal (and other things) upon log in. Then again, my MacBook has the biggest harddrive of the three, and has the most stuff (documents and programs). Usually after I log in, it pops into place before icons and the dock (that goes double for my Mac mini). Strange. I guess it happens since everyone is saying that they've seen it pre-10.6.4.
