Getting a Macbook Pro i7 in June. I also own an iPhone 3GS.
I noticed today while installing Word and Adium, that my Mac is defaulting to my wife's name instead of mine. I'm not sure if I accidentally typed in her name instead of mine... but how do I change this? I checked user account in system preferences and it lists my name and not her's. What's going on?

Were you logged into your account or hers when installing Word and Adium? Sounds like you may have been logged into hers at the time.

Regards.

No there is only my account and the guest account on here. I haven't made one for her yet.

That's why I made this post! lol

I searched around preferences to try and find her name so that I can change it, but I can't find it anywhere. When I logged into Adium for the first time, it set my name to my wife's name as default and when I installed Microsoft Office, it defaulted her name as well in the registration. It's got to be set somewhere and I probably did it without thinking about it. I just need to figure out how to change it.

The very first time you booted the machine up and went through registration, in who's name did you register it?

Well I would like to say my own name. I guess I don't remember exactly. Isn't there a way to change it? I don't see why I would have used her name... but it's the only thing I can come up with.

Go into System Preferences and select Accounts. Whose name is displayed in the Full Name field?

My name is listed in "Full Name." I don't get it.

Did you use a joint iTunes account to register your computer at startup? Maybe that is why it is in her name... (her name was connected to that account)?

What do you mean? Address Book.

First, what do you mean "my Mac is defaulting to my wife's name instead of mine."? Do you mean that when you fill out a name form it suggests your wife's name?

Second, check your contacts in address book (in the application folder).

Aha! It shows my picture, but my wife's name and phone number. Why is this?

It may have happened when / if you imported your contacts from another computer or your phone . Perhaps you had your wife in there and you share an address / home phone #...

Anyway there you go ! And thank The Helpful One for the idea !

Yes of course... you guys rule and I love this forum.

We share the same last name and address but if I edit her info out and replace it with mine, will it screw up her contact on my computer and my iPhone?

You should be fine just editing that one and then create a new one for her.
