Hi.
Still getting used to my new mac. Had it a few months now and still finding something new each week.
The latest question is on the desktop it says for my hard disc capacity 159.7 gb and 37.8 gb free. I thought that I would have a lot more space left on the hard disc as I have hardly anything on it.
To check this I installed disc inventory , this says I have capacity 148.7 gb, used 40.4gb and free space 108.4gb
It looks to me that there are two very different readings here.
Is there another way to check and give me the correct answer.
Thanks.

Well that is weird.

Ahm so what does the Disk Utility say how much space the Mac-Partition has in general?
Disk Utility is generally the most reliable.

Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Or utilize the wonderful search feature that has been built into OS X since 10.4 - spotlight. You can find it at the top right corner of any finder window, along the main Mac OS X menu bar, or you can call it up by hitting command space.

Type "Disk Utility." Open the application.

Mount Point : / Capacity : 159.7 GB (159,697,911,808 Bytes)
Format : Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Available : 116.37 GB (116,365,570,048 Bytes)
Owners Enabled : Yes Used : 43.33 GB (43,332,341,760 Bytes)
Number of Folders : 96,235 Number of Files : 422,830

This is what I get , so it looks like its only showing the numbers after the point on the desktop.
On the desktop its showing 37gb free but above its showing 116.37gb free.
Strange ..... anyway to correct what it says on the desktop.

Can you be more specific about "on the desktop" and "above"?
I think the first one means at the bottom of a Finder Window. Right?

This makes no sense. Can you make some screenshots?
