This has probably come up before but bear with me, as a new boy I am very much a learner. I seem to have lost/mislaid my Downloads Folder from the Dock. I have tried clicking and dragging the folder from Downloads in "Finder" but that does not seem to work-- any help would be much appreciated. Thanks and thank you to everyone for the welcome.

Drag that folder from the Finder to the right-side of the Dock. It should be dropped on the right-side of the dashed line. You'll know it's in the right place when the existing items there start moving aside for you as you hover over in that area while dragging your folder in.

You need to post a screen shot so we can better figure out what it is you are doing/seeing. My guess is you simply don't know what to expect from the Stacks feature.

My mistake! That should be control-click, which is the same as a right click.

If that was in reference to my misleading post which preceded it....

If you have a two-button mouse, right click on a "dog-eared page" Dock icon.

If you have a one-button mouse, hold down the control (ctrl) key and click on the icon.

This will bring up a contextual menu. The second grouping (from the top) is Display as. Click on Folder, and the check mark will appear next to it. That should turn the "dog-eared page" icon to a folder icon.

Great!
Yeah, it helps to use the correct key! Sorry for the misstep.
