iPhone SMS sounds in messaging screens

Your Mac's Specs
Powerbook G4 12" upgraded to 1GB RAM and iPhone 3GS 16gb on O2 and a couple of iPods
If I'm in my SMS / messages, reading a conversation or waiting for a reply, the alert sound is different to the one I have chosen e.g. Chime

SMS alerts/sounds are fine if I am in any other window except in messages.

Is this normal? :confused
