I have settled on a backup drive...now I'm trying to decide on the method. I read the sticky on it. I'm in between Carbon Copy and Time Machine. Can't boot from Time Machine...can from CCC. Any advantages for either from experiences...?

Most people use a combination of both.
If you can do Time Machine backups wirelessly, that's even better.

So they would not conflict with each other..? Is a partition necessary?

If you use both Time Machine and CCC or SuperDuper, it's best to have two separate hard drives. I use both on a regular basis but keep my Time Machine backups on a drive separate from my CCC cloned backup.

You could, however, partition a large external hard drive and use it for both methods. But keep in mind that redundancy is best when it comes to backups.

Regards.

I also use both , but on sep drives. Just wouldn't make any sense to keep 2 back-ups on the same drive....
