Widescreen footage goes 4:3 in iDVD

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 with Leopard and Final Cut Xpress 4.0.1.

I have DV footage shot widescreen which I downloaded to a USB external hard drive -also using it as scratch disc.
I have settings in FCX DV - PAL Anamorphic.
Have edited material which all looks grand and widescreen in canvas.
Then exported to Quicktime movie.
When I play this back in FCX it goes to 4:3 aspect in viewer.

If I move to create it in iDVD with a widescreen selected theme
then the theme opens as a widescreen menu and when the
content is selected in plays back as 4:3 on screen.

I have trashed my prefs dont know what else to try...
