It's only been out for 3 days now, but Safari 5's extensions support is off to a big start. Check out this site that is trying to keep up with them as they are released:

This almost like the addons you can get for firefox. Wow if this turns out to be good I can ditch ForeFox for Safari. Sure I like FireFox a lot. It's not bad at all. But Safari is much faster and more skick. But no customisation of it held me back from the switch. I will research this. Thanks for the post.

I'm a recent switcher from Firefox to Chrome due to Chrome offering some pretty sweet extensions. If Safari 5 can match, or better the Chrome extension offerings, i too will be switching once again, but obviously this time from Chrome to Safari 5.

They don't seem to have an equivalent for the add0n I use the most in Firefox, so looks like Safari will be gathering more dust.

What extension is that? It's possible that the extension is either in development or it's also possible that there is a workaround.

And this safari extensions is just a 3rd party thing till Apple prong out their extention manager. Then I'm sure you'll get some really cool extansions. And I'm sure the first one that will be there will be click to flash :)

I use the Video Download Helper extensively for downloading video tutorials for various 3D software and Photoshop. If I could find an equivalent for Safari, I would give it another go, but right now, Firefox seems like the more capable browser for me.

You've been able to view the H.264 versions of YT videos for quite a while with ClickToFlash ;).

I can't say that I know of much that will help but there are various sites that will allow you to pass the YT URL it and it will provide a download link. A quick Google search should reveal one that meets your needs.

I find Safari utterly useless without being able to utilize mouse gestures, and I'm not installing a third party app like xGesture, Better Touch Tool etc.. Let me know when Apple decides to get with the program, because otherwise, I find Firefox to be just as fast as Safari and a lot more useful with the great extensions it has going for it.

Same thing happened to me (just restarted my comp for the first time since installing the extensions, and they're missing now). I'm reinstalling the two extensions I was using and will see if it happens again.
