I'm considering this service but I want to know if its a good value. I have an iMac, an iPhone, and an iPad and would like some sort of sync feature, not to mention push email.
Is it worth the money?
I suggest doing the free trial and deciding for yourself. You may like it. You may not. There's really only one way to know for sure.
- Automatic syncing as mentioned above (which works on PCs too)
- 20GB of online storage
- Push ad-free e-mail to the Mac, iPhone, and iPad
- An online gallery to share photos with friends and family
- iDisk, which allows you to store files online and share with others
- Find my iPhone/iPad in the unfortunate event of leaving it in a bar
- A suite of fully interactive web apps for all of these features above
- Back to My Mac, which allows you to access a Mac's hard drive at home when you are away
Many will say that you can do all of these things on other services for free, but I have found them to be second-rate compared to MobileMe. Additionally, the service is pretty well integrated into all of Apple's products, so they work remarkably well.
Thats actually a good idea... I've done so too as we speak. I have, however, already encountered two (SERIOUS) issues with MobileMe:
1) I cannot get MobileMe to pull email from my provider's email account. (I have enabled the "check external POP account" functionality, but it does not fetch automatically, unless I go to me.com and click fetch mail). Any ideas?
2) Is there a way to import my 2k+ mails stored on GMail into Mobile me? I love archiving stuff, so I wouldnt want to lose old emails.
Instead of trying to pull the mail from your provider's e-mail account, can you have it forwarded to MobileMe? That's what I'm doing with my old Gmail account and it works well.
Try this. Download all of your Gmail messages to the Mail app on OS X. Then highlight all the messages in the Gmail Inbox, then right-click on the selected messages and go down to Copy To -> MobileMe Inbox. That should move all the messages over to your MobileMe account and save them on the server.

So, what do you think people who are still on the 2 month free trial, who have also bought the 12-month version and put it on their account, like me, once we bought something at the store? I don't know why they even make you activate it, since you are running on the 2 months free, but I will be pretty ticked if they do say that a free, all-be-it a bit lacking over their next higher tiered price, will be available tomorrow, and I can't get a refund, or at least a partial one to keep me in the premium version!
Hard to say, it's just a rumor. I'd imagine they'd make it up to you in some way.
