recover data from ext HD formatted by time machine?

hi there - my friend was helping my husband set up time machine for his macbook pro and used the wrong external hard drive. all of the pictures of our first born son was on that drive, but were erased due to time machine being set up on it. is there any way possible to get this data back, or am i hopeless? someone, please say yes!!

Sorry to hear of your troubles. The best suggestion I have for recovering your pictures is to first - stop using that external hard drive.

Next, download this software: Data Rescue III. Download their trial version first and test it to see if it can recover your photos. If it can, buy a license. ($99.00) A bit pricey but worth it to recover the photos.

And a bit of advice: NEVER store valuable photos on a hard drive. Hard drives can fail or can be overwritten (as you found out). It's better to burn photos to DVDs where they'll be much safer.
