Your Mac's Specs
MBP 2.3 Ghz 4GB RAM 860 GB SSD, iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 32GB RAM, Fusion Drive 1TB
It's not the standard height of 2.5" HDDs which is 9.5mm. 12.5mm will fit in the MBPs but it's a tight fit on the smaller MBPs. Not sure if that's the case with the 17" MBP or not. The older MBPs were able to fit 12.5mm so hopefully that's the case here.

I've read from another thread that the older MBPs have some issues with vibration- is that fixed from the 2010 update?

It will fit but there may be a chance of some vibration and getting warm from having less space for cooling. Just make sure when you purchase it that you can return it for a refund in case it does exhibit vibration.

The HD is located under the left palm rest, away from the higher temperatures of the CPU and GPU. With the 15" i5, there will still be a gap between the bottom and the drive (The drive is about level with the battery adjacent to it.) The 1TB Scorpio appears to be very quiet and not particularly warm, as say a 7200rpm drive. Of course, you mileage may vary.
