say i have an app (iPhoto / iMovie) installed on Mac and want to do a complete format & restore --don't have the DVD/CD since the seller lost all his DVD/CD's, is there a way to copy these apps before format and re-install after wards ?

thanks.

Sure if you back them up to an external HDD. After the system re-install, you can use Migration Assistant to move those essential files/apps back onto your Mac.

You could but I suggest you go get an ex-hdd as you will need one to implement your back-up plan. You do have a back-up plan don't you ? If not then before you do anything I suggest you follow and read the links below.

The last link is great and does include the 1st 4 links but just incase I included them.

I hope it helps
