Mail Not Responding

a couple of days ago, my wife sent me an email with 17 very large pictures attached. after 15 min of downloading i just shut down mail. now every time i open up Mail i get the Spinning Ball Cursor. i have to Force Quit Mail every time i open it up. i have even left it open overnight hoping that it would fix itself but no joy. i use Gmail with Mail. I have logged into Gmail and cleaned everything out and still this happens.

is there a way to delete the account from Mail with out opening Mail? Is there another solution to this problem?

I am using a MacBook 2GHz C2D with 2GB RAM operating OSX 10.4.11

i also have the same account tied to Mail on my iMac G5 running OSX 10.4.11 and it will not lock up.

I'm going to grasp at some straws here - based only on a similar experience, but related to sending an email.

You'll need to show hidden files and folders first - I use Onyx - or you can find the terminal command with a quick google.

I'm assuming you're using imap also - not sure what differences the directory may have if you're using pop.

Try these one at a time and then check Mail again

Head for Users / your user / Library / Mail / IMAP-youremail @imap.gmail.com

Look in the folder 'OfflineCache' - if there is anything there besides the .DS_Store - empty the folder - you don't need anything that's there


Couple more places to look - still in the 'IMAP-youremail@...' folder.

Apple Mail To Do.imapmbox - try moving the info.plist (and anything else that may be lurking in that folder) to the desktop or trash

INBOX.imapmbox - Look in both the Attachments and Messages folders - look for a folder inside each with the date matching the start of your problem and move it out

i deleted a file named something like InboxCache.plist and it is working now. thanks for the help!!

Good going - don't even have that one in my folder hierarchy right now. but, all the plist files are game for gettin rid of when you run into these type of issues.

today I deleted a file named mboxCache.plist. This is weird that this has happened 2x this year.
