Hi,

I just bought a 500gb hitachi travelstar 7k500 and installed into my old 2006 macbook. During the installation of the leopard osx into this new hd, I hold down the key c and it prompted me to the installation osx cd. However, the sytem couldn't detect my new hd and there wasnt any location for me to click to install the osx. What might causing the problem?

Start the OS X installer, click through the first couple of prompts until you see the menu bar. Click the Utilities menu (or it might be Tools, can't remember) and start Disk Utility. In Disk Utility, you should see your new drive in the left pane. Click to select it and then click the Erase tab to setup a new partition. Once you've got it formatted, you can proceed with the install.

If you have the old drive handy, another method would be to hook it up externally and then use a program like SuperDuper to clone it to the new drive.
