I thought OS X had built in support for .zip files :|

I'm not sure about built in support, but "The Unarchiver" done the trick.

Thanks for the help :)

I use the Unarchiver as well, just so i can tell it were to unzip the file if I don't want it in the same folder as the original. I also have BetterZip for the same reason.

I thought I remembered that the zip support was built in because I was unzipping things before I found the other programs.

Mac has an in-built app, or however we call it, to handle .zip files.

It is called Archive Utility.

Taking a quick guess, I would say when you installed UnrarX, you set it to the default app to handle .zip

Just associate it back with Archive Utility. Never had any problem with it.

Cheers

I wonder what you mean by "open." But if I want to uncompress a zip file's contents, then in a Terminal window or in an xterm window, I type something like this:

unzip AppleSoftware.zip

I'm sorry if I'm saying the obvious.

There's not reason to open up a shell just to extract a zip archive. Using the built-in zip support should more than do the job.
