Why do you specifically need Office 2007? Do you need one of the Office 2007 programs that aren't available in the Mac version of Office 2008, such as OneNote or Access? Or perhaps you need the ability to use VB macros?

'04 '08 and later this year '11 are the Mac versions.

'03 '07 and '10 are the Windows versions.

They are not identical, although they do share some commonalities. The biggest problem is that if your texts specify particular processes, it will be difficult to follow with the Mac versions.

I would recommend purchasing 2007 as specified. Typically your school will have special educators pricing. You could easily install Windows in a virtual machine using something like VirtualBox (free) or one of its more refined pay-for competitors like VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop.
