Okay so I'm getting my MBP 15" i7 this weekend and im wondering about an external portable hard drive. Thing is, i don't know which to buy? I want a 500gb one and so far im pretty much down to the Seagate FreeAgent Go and the WD Passport.

Just a few questions:

1. Will i notice a big enough difference in FW800 vs USB 2.0?
2. Which would you buy between the two options?
3. Any extra input you'd give me?

PS. Keep in mind this is my first mac

Thanks for the help!

My recommendation: LINK The folks at Other World Computing are Mac specialists and sell only the best in hardware. The On the Go Pro external drive with FW 800 is hard to beat for performance. This same drive is also highly rated by MacWorld magazine.

You'll see transfer speeds 80-100% faster with either FW400 or 800 moving data of 100 MB or more at a time. Moving small single files you're not really going to notice much diiference. FW 400 does not trail 800 in the testing I've done by very much.

That does look like a nice drive chscag linked to.
