3GS Price Drop to $97

Today, walmart dropped the iPhone 3GS (16Gb) to $97 for new contracts and equipment upgrades. I checked Apples website, and they still have it listed at $199. How can walmart do this? And will Apple and other stores soon follow? I can think up two reasons: 1. They are clearing stock for a "new" model coming out soon, or 2. walmart is getting out of the iPhone market.

they are trying to get rid of the current inventory for the next model iPhone and there is a very good chance these sub $100 phones are refurbs.

everyone else will be dropping their prices soon.

Yea, i read this the other day... Cant wait for the new iPhone.

If you look around you will find that apple has discontinued the 3g and the 16gig 3gs is now the "base model" to take the place
of the 3g.

i didn't notice they discontinued the 3G... but it makes sense. I'm going to keep watching Apples site for the lowered prices. If they do it soon, then we know for sure they have a new model coming out. But knowing Apple, they won't discount until the new iPhone release date.
