Planning on using it as a desktop replacement, so I'd need to have it on all the time, like mostly all day every day so I can remote in from work, etc.

I'm afraid of killing the built-in battery on a new MBP by doing this, does anyone know if this will be an issue or not?

The battery isn't used when fully charged and the power cord is connected.

The only damage you could possibly do is constantly use it unplugged.

No problem doing it that way. I've used my MacBook the same way at home for over two years as a desktop and my battery is still in very good condition.
Just make sure that you discharge and charge the battery every once in awhile to keep it in good condition.

Regards.
