As I was attempting to find out about a current event, the screen evaporated showing my screen-saver, stating that my computer was in danger and needed to be checked for viruses. The normal 3 options including escape were not available only leaving the option to click "ok". I tried to get rid of it but finally clicked ok and it alleged that I had viruses all over my operating system. I tried to shut down and it overrode Firefox, directing me to the Apple sign itself, which allowed a shutdown, but when I tried to go back to the same site, it happened again. I shut down the system and rebooted.
Question: is there any such thing as an "automatic" virus checker or was this some sort of sophisticated (to me at least) attempt to look official to try to sell a non-tech on a new app?
