Apple Genius Bar tools

Yesterday while at the apple store genius bar for a battery problem, I came across a handy little tool.
The Genius tech, had an iPod loaded with some sort of mac os9 look software which was able to diagnose my MBP without an actual boot of the laptop.
The iPod was simply plugged into the laptop via USB and within seconds the mac os9 type software loaded up and showed that the battery needed replacement.

I was wondering if anyone knows what that software is? Is this an apple only type diagnostic tool? It's pretty cool to see that the iPod can be used for other things than what it's sold for

Yes it is Apple genius bar technicians tool which is used to diagnose Macbooks, Laptops and computers and related things to diagnose their hardware problems.
It works only with Apple Products.
It is especially developed for the computers or laptops which stop working and some time it is impossible to boot them either because of battery problem or other hardware problem.

It's a custom Apple bit of software, and no you're not getting a copy.

Apple has a long history of writing custom software that did things consumers didn't have access to. I remember Disney had Newtons with a little add-on that could swipe credit cards!

People think the "Square" product is revolutionary, HAH! I say.
