Airport Extreme Time Capsule and WDS

I have an Airport Extreme and am purchasing a Time Capsule. My house has heavy stucco so I need both to get wireless throughout my house (previously used an Express and am replacing with Time Capsule for backup).

I heard the WDS protocol uses a lot of bandwidth. If I don't use WDS, can I merely setup one merely as a wireless access point?

How would I go about this? I have Cat 5 running throughout my house so is it as simple as plugging one device to my internet connection and the other device into the wall?

You can set the wireless mode of the second unit to join a wireless network which is what I use the AEBS to my modem and AE by my hifi for Blu-Ray and iTunes covers my
house and yard.
