Through reading some threads I understand that I need to boot from my CD and go into "Disk Utility" to repair the error below. My problem is two fold and I don't know enough about RAID to know if my set up is what's causing the problem?

Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
%)
Checking Extended Attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair

Here's what I've done so far:

I tried to restart the computer holding "C" and I can here the CD spin a little but the computer continues to boot like I didn't even hold down "C". I've tried to go through "startup" through system preferences, but the disc "OSX 10.4" doesn't even show up?

I've tried to hold down "S" and run "FSCK", but it does the same thing as when I try to hold down "C".... Nothing.

I've held down "option" at restart and I get 4 drives that show up. not sure what thats about?

lastly I've tried to just double click the CD to install and try to run the Disk Utility from that screen but I get the message "Mac OS X 10.4 cannot be installed on this machine." I'm running OS X 10.4.11

Below is a link with screen shots of my disk utility I posted in a thread on the software forum, but no one seems to know what's I'm talking about?

I wish I knew more, but I'd really appreciate any and all help you can provide at this point!

The other drives you see are the raid drives. If this is a separate unit ..would be a good idea to disconnect it from the Mac if the system drive is in the Mac itself. Then try to boot from the DVD hold down the C key. If this is a mirrored door the boot disk should be a DVD. This is a full retail disc. Its black with silver X.

I agree with Mac SK, if your RAID is external disconnect it when trying to install the OS (the RAID itself is fine, the issue is with the main System HD). It's all ways a good idea to disconnect any external drives when trying to install the OS on the main HD, it eliminates the possibility of any issues similar to the one you are having ("OS cannot be installed").

If you are pressing 'option' at restart and getting 4 drives, this is giving the choice of connected devices to try boot from. If the install DVD is in the drive, is it not present in that list ?

Are you able to actually boot your Mac into the OS installed ?
If you can, the other option you could try is:
When your Mac is on with the Install DVD in the drive go to the 'System Preferences' utility and click 'Startup Disk' and select the Install DVD from the list. It should then reboot using the DVD.

All of the drives are actually internal. There are 4 internal HD's of which there are two sets striped together which are mirroring each other.

I am using the original install disc (the retail copy).

The disc does not show up under startup.

Should I just buy a copy of DiscWarrior and go that route?

Just out of interest does the CD show up on the desktop or in DiskUtility?
Have you tried accessing the CD from another (external) drive? or tested it in another Mac?
