Say hypothetically I have an ipad, and it is full of all kinds of electronic junk files. And say I think hey on my imac I can store the applications I rarely use on my external hard drive to free up the internal hard drive.

But on the ipad can I store the apps somewhere and re-add them to the ipad when I need them. Or do I just delete them and have to re-download them each time. Being able to save the apps of the ipad somewhere like my imac would be nice. But is that possible?

All the apps you have bought are stored in iTunes. You only sync the ones you wish to use.

I have only 62 purchased apps which total 1.2 GB

Currently have 46 of those on my iPad. Along with the default apps, space used for apps only on the iPad is at 1.51 GB.

More edit:
I have not figured out where things like magazines and books that are not a part of iBooks are shown in the space indictors. Not sure if these are shown under apps or other. Only my audio books and app store purchased books show up in the iPad menu of "Books".

Along that line, i also have 600 MB used by Other. Have maybe 15 magazines, 30-40 comics and around 25 books. My best guess is that audiobooks are counted in the music space.

I'm pretty sure I understand.

So say I delete an app to make more space on the ipad. At a later date I can re-sync the app from itunes to get it back on the ipad. As it was only deleted on itunes and not on the itunes on my imac?
And when you sync you can choose what apps you want to have on the ipad yes? I would think so but I'm just checking as I don't have an Apple touch device to try it out. I've never used an Apple touch screen device. I know I'm a rare breed, hopefully that'll change soon :).

And 62 apps for 1.2GB that's pretty good. That's more than I expected. I thought you'd only get 20-30ish per GB.

Thanks for the reply.

Edited above post also with more info.
You check or uncheck the apps you want to sync, same as your music.

It allows for organization of your apps on the various screens from within iTunes also.
Here"s a pic.

Thanks. That's exactly what I wanted to know. Now all of that makes me really happy. Can't wait to get an ipad one day. Probably in June or July. Once I have the finances for it.
